On Thursday 8 June you'll have a big decision to make. Do you want me continuing to campaign for local people and fighting for the things that matter to you as your Member of Parliament, or do you want a Conservative who will not stand up for ordinary people and the things that matter to them? I truly believe that a strong Member of Parliament fighting your corner can make all the difference.
All the time I was your Member of Parliament, I never let them downgrade Chase Farm Hospital. Then the minute a Conservative got elected here in 2010, our hospital was downgraded. The Accident and Emergency was shut. The maternity unit went. Chase Farm used to have 500 in-patient beds, now it has been cut to just 48 beds. That’s what you get with a Tory MP.
Before long, the Tories had plans to partially close the North Middlesex Hospital as well. My campaign stopped them doing to the North Middlesex what they'd already done to Chase Farm.
But imagine what could happen if the Tories manage to get elected in Enfield North in a few weeks’ time. They could downgrade or close the North Middlesex Hospital, just as they did to Chase Farm. That's because a Conservative MP will never stand up for Enfield North if a Conservative Government is elected. But if I am still your MP, I will fight for the North Mid in the same way as I did for Chase Farm.
Theresa May has called this General Election because she wants Enfield North to have a Conservative MP who will wave through an extreme, hard Brexit without putting the interests of local people and businesses first.
But we need an MP who will make sure we get the best deal from the Brexit negotiations. I respect that the country voted to leave the EU. The task now is for the Government to secure the best deal possible, one that doesn’t leave British people worse off, less secure at work and with fewer opportunities in the future.
I am not going to pretend that achieving this will be easy, but I will never give in. I’m determined. I’m resilient. I don’t take no for an answer. Enfield is my home – and everything I have done has been to try to improve the lives of local people.
If you re-elect me on June 8, I promise to carry on campaigning with my team, listening to local people, and using my experience to fight for the things that matter to the people of Enfield.
With very best wishes,
