Joan Ryan MP condemns Tory record of failure on child poverty

Joan Ryan MP: "the Government must step up, or step aside."

Enfield is in the midst of a worsening crisis in child poverty. 4 in 10 of Enfield’s children are living below the poverty line – that’s almost 34,000 children. The Borough is the 11th most impoverished area for children in the UK. My constituency of Enfield North and neighbouring Edmonton are also two of the top twenty constituencies in the country with the fastest growing levels of child poverty.

For eight years the Tories have failed to address the growing child poverty crisis, and this week the Enfield Independent reported that our borough has the highest eviction rate in London. Many hard-pressed local families are struggling to cope with soaring rents and a lack of affordable homes. It's time that the Tories fixed their broken housing policy. It’s time for them to step up, or step aside.
