Joan Ryan MP has called for immediate international action to protect civilians in Aleppo and Syria.

The situation in Aleppo is catastrophic. Atrocities are taking place on an unimaginable scale.

Russian military activity in support of the Assad regime not only prevents aid from getting into Aleppo, but also prevents people and medics who desperately want to leave from getting out safely.

I am calling for immediate international action and hope that, alongside our allies in the United Nations, we can put in place a ceasefire, allowing the people of Aleppo to be brought out safely.

In the Commons I raised this issue and asked the Secretary of State for Defence: what discussions are we having with our allies to ensure safe passage in this intolerable situation?
